Heading back north

After the fairly ordinary trip down south, we headed back up towards McKinley, where we were booked to stay a couple of nights in an RV park each side of a bus trip into the park.

There was still a fair bit of rain as we were leaving the peninsular. Lots of wind too made the driving difficult. It is basically a sail boat on wheels but without the aerodynamics.

We finally got to see a bear though, even it it was only briefly at the top of a cliff up from the side of the road. Just missed getting a photo of it.

The sun came out as we headed north, but Mckinley was now in the clouds.

The next morning, I had seen a small peak near by that I wanted to hike up to and do a bit of scrambling. I headed out this morning about 10 am.

Check out Matts Little Adventure

We split up. The girls heading down to look at the river and check out the stuff around. There is quite a town here, not far from the entrance to the national park.

As unusual as it seems, Olivia found some new friends. Some twins exactly 2 months older than her. They played for a while.

Pea soup time. She had been asking about pea soup and they found some today.

Altogether, a very successful day.

Additional Note: We just saw a black bear run past our RV with a ranger tearing around after him in an ATV. Some redneck ran and grabbed his rifle from his trailer. For a moment, I thought it was a tranquilizer, but why would someone have one of those here. Anyway, it got away. Or at least there were no shots fired. Go Bear!

Additional Update: Hillbilly Gun Nut Morons 1. Bear 0.
With the number of guns I have seen around the RV park today, I might have thought that the Canadians were attacking.
They should tear down all of those bear statues out the front of tourist shops and replace them with a toothless guy in denim suspenders.
