Whistler and Back to Camping
On our way from Vancouver to Jasper we decided to drive through Whistler. One of the ski resorts that we used to ski at when we lived in Vancouver but there is very little snow there now. It is also where they held the 2010 winter Olympics.
No snow but at least we could still have some bobsled action.
We took the chair lift up to the top of Blackcomb mountain where we could catch the peak to peak gondola across to whistler mountain.
Olivia and I waited for the so-called glass bottom gondola while Shannon decided to go on one of the normal ones by herself.
It turned out that the glass was so small that we didn't even bother looking through it. Still, the view was quite good between the mountains.
As it turned out all 3 of us placed in the final event of the day, with Olivia taking the gold.
It was going to be a long drive to Jasper and we knew we had to stay the night somewhere so as the sun started getting slightly less bright we looked for a campsite. We found a free campsite along side a running river with nice rapids and we turned out to be the only people there.
It ended up being one of our best nights camping ever even though there was the threat of bears and cougars.
Early the next morning I woke up to hear a squirrel going mental in a tree behind your tent. When I looked outside the tent at the squirrel he was high on a branch with his nose pointing away from the tent and making a hell of a lot of noise. Expecting to see a bear or cougar ready to attack and maul us to death, it turned out to be a pleasant yet slightly less interesting surprise.

I can't believe you guys used to live somewhere so beautiful. And so close to incredible ski fields. Yes, I'm looking at you Mt Hutt. Don't pretend you're in the same category....... The gondola sounds excellent, but good tip on the 'glass bottomed' false advertising. The luge looks like heaps of fun and has the Olivia Rose Hunter smile of approval. And of course it was gold, gold, gold to Olivia from Australia!!!!! Was there ever any doubt? It's a pity Daddy couldn't get that ginormous toy bear in the car though. Perhaps next time. All that and setting up camp as well. Thank the tilt of the earth for long summer daylight. Sounds like a great spot. I may have been a little hesitant but I trust your judgement. Nice to get a visitor for breakfast though (especially where you weren't on the menu!).
